The ACCA Qualification
The ACCA Qualification has been designed to provide career professionals working across all industry sectors with accounting knowledge, skills and professional values.
Embedded in the ACCA Qualification are the global accounting education standards set by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). There is a strong focus on ethics, professional values and governance. These are examined at the highest level in the ACCA Qualification and are a core element of your practical experience requirements.
Who are ACCA students
ACCA students are not just members of the accountancy profession. ACCA members/students have the knowledge and the skills to succeed in other areas such as business consulting, taxation, IT, strategic planning, and general management.
No previous knowledge of accounting or finance is required to start studying for the ACCA Qualification. All you need is the motivation to invest your time (three to four years) in gaining the ACCA Qualification and achieving a successful career. Irrespective of your educational background or learning environment, the ACCA Qualification provides professional opportunities for everyone.
Why study for ACCA membership
ACCA members have greater business knowledge than their colleagues, which provides them with more opportunities for advancement.
Holding the ACCA qualification will make you a more competent business or finance practitioner ready to take on more difficult and challenging tasks.
A comprehensive ACCA programme will help you understand and master the processes within finance and business organisations.
How to become an ACCA member
In order to qualify for membership of ACCA you need to complete 13 ACCA Qualification Exams (nine of which you could be exempt from depending on your previous qualifications), have relevant working experience and be familiar with the Code of Professional Ethics. Depending on the number of exemptions, you are expected to complete the examinations within two to three years.
Examination sessions are organized by ACCA twice a year, usually in the first two weeks in June and December. Students can sit a maximum of four exams during each examination session. Computer Based Exams (CBEs), such as Accountant in Business, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting and Corporate and business law, can be sat at any time of the year.
The ACCA Qualification will prepare you for a challenging and often demanding career as a professional accountant and for that it is not sufficient to rely solely on theoretical knowledge developed through an exam process. Therefore, a key component of the ACCA Qualification is gaining relevant practical experience.
